Hanging Around Home Page
Hanging Around
were based in North Manchester 1986-1987.
They were formed from St.Joseph's school band "Censored".
Other early names were PDQ and Jovial Huntsmen.
Pictured
above (from
top) are:
Dom (keyboards), Paul (bass), Stephen
(vocals
and tambourine),
Liam (drums), James (guitar). Ever-present
roadie
Burnsy is shown in the gallery.
In
early 1987,
HA had a residency (at least several gigs!) at the salubrious "Eagle
and
Child" pub in Bury, near the police station.Other
gigs of note were 2 gigs at the Polish Club (Bury) where Stephen had to
calm the baying crowd (or was that the Bury locals braying each other?).
A fine performance was given at St Bernadettes Social club for a 14-17s
disco in the summer of 87. Stephen had to interrupt one song in order
to announce a taxi for Lisa Fairclough!
They also played a
bizarre gig playing hymns at St. Michael's, Whitefield for YCW benefit!

The pinnacle
of HA's achievement came in August 1987, playing at The
Boardwalk venue in Manchester.
The band had
reformed for this one last gig after splitting up in Easter 1987 due to
the inevitable "musical differences"

Their billing
can be seen on this flyer, other notable bands on at this venue in
August 1987 (see full flyer)
were Inspiral Carpets and The Shunted (rumoured to be the then
popular Railway
Children)

After this the
members took up solo projects and some collaborated again at Holy Cross
College student concerts.
A demo and several
live recordings exists of varying quality.
Also an
interview conducted by roadie Mark Burns is also in the archives.
Where are they now?
Paul, James and Mark
are regularly in touch, and one New Year's Eve in the Ostrich (nr. St
Monica's, Prestwich)
was
probably the closest to a reunion with 3 members present
(Paul,James,Dom).
Stephen
has some details on Friends Reunited at was in touch a few years ago.
I have
not heard from Liam since the 1980s
