A previous incarnation of my solo recording projects was named “Underline”.
I self released an EP “XX1” and the album 2001-2005 between those years, this was before the music streaming era. 2001-2005 was available on CD from my website at the time, on a cottage industry basis!
XX1 represented my first forays into digital recording, as home PCs , soundcards etc became affordable at the turn of the millennium. In the 1990s I’d used 4 track analogue and outboard gear, but now more and more was being done within the PC itself.
I had a track “Stretched Out” reviewed in Computer Music Magazine in 2001.
These recordings were done when I was just starting to learn the drums and had acquired my first proper kit in 2002, so there were some drum machines in use. An ongoing side project is to remaster some of these old tracks with real acoustic drums recorded to replace the drum machines.
Watch this space for forthcoming re-releases!
I noticed that “Underline” seems quite a popular name, with bands coming and going. Back in 2001 it wasn’t in use by others to my knowledge. However I’ve chosen to release as the not too dissimilar “Under A Mile“, to maintain some association.
